I have a 2001 ford escape. The tone ring on one side is cracked, so the technition removed the fuse as it was pre-activating. I took it to another garage for other work and they said it was still engaging and could not pass inspection this way. Now I stood there and watched the tech pull the fuse, and then the ABS and brake light came on so I know he pulled it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In general and not specific to this vehicle is that when the ABS gets the wrong but credible input it can be a real hazard in braking action when its help is not needed! If the fuse blows which is the same as missing or most other problems with the system the amber ABS light would come on your dash and stay lit. In that mode the vehicle should default to regular braking action, skid or not.
The other warning light is I think always a red light and that means a real problem exists. Many share that light with the parking brake, low brake fluid level, or an inbalance of pressure all of which need immediate attention!
Last I heard in this state the yellow ABS light on will not reject the vehicle from state inspection but a red one sure would!
Color of the warning light matters. Consult your owner's manual which should be very clear about what action you need to take. Red warnings are NOT to be ignored and none should!
