95 Escort stalls at stoplight Sign In

I Just bought a 95 escort with 160 thousand miles. after buying i was at a stoplight and the engine started to idle rough and stalled. There is also a hissing sound from the engine that sounds like it might be vacuum leak. any help would be great.

You may have an IAC issue here. First have an assistant hold the throttle open (engine off) and use an old toothbrush and carb cleaner to clean the back of the throttle plate. Be sure to clear the two small air bleed holes in it as well. If the trouble persists, replace the IAC motor.

The throttle body cleaning is a good idea but it sounds like you have a vacuum leak that has to be found and resolved first.

'95? May still be a Mazda motor but any would care. If the air snorkeling isn't tight or violated they don't like that. If just jiggling it at idle makes a change look for the flaw or change in the sound,
