Won't Start Hood Won't Open 2000 Mountaineer Sign In

okay I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. It was running fine. Yesterday, I went to start the car and nothing happened. The lights came on like normal, it beeped like normal, but nothing after that. It just wouldn't start and it wasn't even making noise. Seemed like it wasn't trying to start at all!

I went out today and after checking the fuses (they all seemed fine) I decided to look under the hood. Only problem is I pulled the lever for the hood and nothing happened!

Are these related? What can I do?

Not related unless there is some funky theft device that isn't working right. You can make it open from underneath or thru the grille with some work using long screwdrivers and may have to remove a shield underneath if the cable just isn't working. Good luck but a tough time to have both problems, T

first is to open the hood have some one hold the hood latch open and with the palm of ya hand give the hood a couple raps if the cable is broken this won't work if the hood latch pulls back when you release it it shouldn't be broke as for the other of ya problems test the selenoid .do the headlights dim when you turn the key

I forgot to mention that trick and if it works grease the heck out the latch and test is with hood open and fake the latch to lock with a screwdriver. You could add a trip wire thru grille if it did that again until it's fixed, T

Hello- I have the same exact problem! On a 01 ford explorer...Does the latch push back, or is it a side catch? And, as it's been frozen here for days...I get clicking ,but engine won't turn over, lights & horn are good...I'm a tad frightened that my engine could be frozen...tho it was running fine for days...Any help in getting under the hood is appreciated...any diagnostic suggestions to dispell my frozen engine fears...Thanks...patrick[reply]
