93 Ford F150
Wipers will not work at all. Just a clicking sound from near/behind the glove box when the switch is turned on.
Originall i thought it was the wiper motor, but I replaced it with a new one 2 days ago. It did the same thing. However...the NEW motor was making a soft humming sound & heat came from it after shutting the truck off. the OLD motor did'nt do that. I took the new motor back to advanced auto, and got the old one back..since it didnt solve the problem (thinking the old one was still good) The old motor doesnt heat up like the new one did, what does that mean?
Now I am afraid that the old motor is NOT good since it didnt make that noise or heat up....but I didnt think about that when getting it back after returning the new motor. I did my research and there is no relay or anythoing on this truck. All there is-
1. Wiper motor
2. Switch
3. fuse (which i replaced)
So my next attempt is to replace the switch. I don't know if their is another fuse to the wipers or not. Are there normally 2 fuses? There is a fuse box under the hood...but nothing is labeled. (not my truck & no book)
How hard is it to replace the switch? The washer fluid comes out, turn signal works, it just the wipers that dont work. Any advice would be helpfull.

The clicking noise behind the dash is the wiper delay module. If you drop the glove box door the module sits behind it on a bracket. It is plastic and may either be black or grey. If the module clicks as you cycle the wiper switch then at this time the switch is assumed ok. Most modules control the park, washer pump, low speed, and the intermittent wipers. Usually when the module fails you still have high speed wipers. If the new motor didn't fix it, you can try a new module. They are only available through the dealer and are about $50. This is a common problem with Ford. Post back and keep us informed on what you find.

The wipers will not come on period. The washer fuid comes out, and turn signal works. When I turn the switch for the wipers...the clicking noise is all there is. Would it be wiser to replace the switch or module?

As you move the wiper switch, if you hear the delay module clicking, the switch is ok because the module is responding to the switch moving. What I would like you to do is turn the wipers on high and take a jumper wire from the battery negative terminal and touch it to the metal body of the wiper motor. If the motor comes on, run a permanent jumper wire from a good ground to the body screw of the motor. If the wiper motor doesn't come on then try a new delay module. If you put in a rebuilt motor and nothing happened, then either the motor was no good or the module is at fault. Unfortunately, I don't have a wiring diagram for your truck here at home. From my experiences with Fords, the delay modules are usually the culprit.

Thanks Steve. So if the module is clicking, then the switch is ok? At least I now know what to do. I just did'nt want to waste the time & $$ for the switch if that was NOT the culprit. I am pretty much doing "guess work" at this point, but since you told me what to do...its a lot more assuring of the problem. I am going to be working on it Friday morning , and then let you know what happens. Thanks for your help.
