Whirring sound from engine on 2001 YukonXL

My 2001 Yukon XL makes a whirring sound like a jet taking off when it is idling. I does not always do this and seems to be whirring at a pitch much lower than it has been. Any ideas?

A pulley bearing perhaps? Try taking belt off and spin each by hand. If run for a moment with belt removed and noise is gone you at least know it's a belt driven something making the noise,
