Wheel wells, plastic screws GM 1998 Sign In

1998 Sunfire uses plastic screws throughout the exterior and interior of the car. I can't get some of them out of the wheel well liner. (I've broken some before when removing them.) How do you remove these? Should I break them and can I purchase new ones somewhere?

Just stick a screwdriver under the edge, between the screw and the plastic base and just pry it out. It's just a "push in" screw.

They are impossible to remove by prying from the head - most won't come out or they break. The plastic is not brittle but very tough - I guess nylon.

Don't tell me it can't be done. i do it every day. You have to get between the screw and the insert. They don't really have threads, just ridges.

These are available at almost any parts store if they have failed. Cheap junk! Take me back to the 50's and 60s!
