Way to jerry rig car to start without ignition cylinder? Sign In

My gf has a 1993 Buick Regal GS, for the last while its been hard to start the car, the key wont turn in the ignition lock cylinder, we eventually left the key in and it was ok. Her dad borrowed the car and took the key out, now its not starting, he drilled out he ignition as well in hopes to do something.

My question is, is there any way to jerry rig the car to start from a simple toggle switch? like a wire lead off the ignition and battery or something along those lines?

I'm an HVAC student, and shes a 4th year RN student, so we're dead broke....cheaper and easier the better!
Cheers!

To be perfectly honest. You both have plenty of smarts , just not in auto repair. And dad ,while at least tryimg to help, has been watching Gone In 60 Seconds reruns . Drilling did not help things. Even if you put a starter sw/button on it , the steering and shifter would still be locked . Your best and cheapest way out would be having a local shop put in a new cylinder. Good luck on your new career's.

RT is correct..... The cheapest option is to replace the lock cylinder... Maybe dad can help out a little here (money wise....no more power tools)

One other thing that needs to be mentioned is the anti-theft, which is why pulling the ign lock out didn't work..

Even if it was possible to bypass it wouldn't be able to be posted in an open forum.

That would be like posting a "how to" on stealing GM vehicles...........
