Someone please help. about a month ago my check engine light came on. I took it to the shop and i was told it was code 305 and that i needed a tune up which was done for $372.66.I asked why was it so high . i was told because of the coils. yesterday my check engine light came on again i took it back to the same shop and was told it was code 306 and that the coil was bad. I think I am being ripped off. my vehicle is a 2003 mercury mountineer 8cyl AWD. I asked today what is included in a tune this time he stated plug, oil change etc. No mention of the coil. He stated that if they changed the coil on every tune up it would be about $172.00 for each coil. Please help am I being ripped off.

Re: Tune up Sign In

You can replace the plug and coil yourself. Coils cost you about 60$ if you buy aftermarket. They are held in place witha small 7mm headed bolt. Unplug wiring, remove bolt, pull coil straight up. Spark plug is under the coil. Let us know if you want to do it yourself and need additional help. If you need to know which cylinder is which, look below.

Re: Tune up Sign In

Thanks for the information. I'll try doing it myself.
