hey i have a question i hope someone can answer i have an 01 impala and the engine light is on i suppose it needs a tune up,but i was wondering if i take it to a place that is not the dealer will it turn the light off or does the dealer control that light to turn it off and on please someone helpppppp

Go to a major auto parts store and see if they will read the codes for you. If they will, post back the EXACT code number and we can help diagnose.

the check engine light does not illuminate as a reminder to do a tune up. when the check engine light is on, its because some part has failed for the most part and needs rebuilding/replacing.

some newer cars have "maintenance required" light and i believe that is a reminder light for the driver.

AutoZone will read your codes for free
