Toyota Avalon Key/start problem

[:(] Just finished with $400 repair on 2000 Avalon (56K miles) now I am having trouble with the ignition. Key won't always turn - often have to try multiple times before it will turn and start. Happening more often and afraid at some point I won't get it to turn at all. Have tried spare key and it does the same thing. If I have to have the cylinder and keys changed it will be $380 plus labor. Is this a known problem? Anyone else with this and your outcome? Thanks for any input at all.

My 2000 Avalon has the same problem. I get stuck for 30-40 minutes from time to time. I have had the car into the dealership 4 times and they can't seem to find the problem because it doesn't fail when in the shop. I have the etended warranty but, They say they can't fix something that they can't find. The steering doesn't auto lock and key won't turn. When I pull the wheel from side to side it finally locks but, still the key won't turn. After some time of pulling my hardest from side to side the key finally turns. It has stranded me on many occations and caused ne to be late for or miss appointments. Toyota has no IDEA what the problem is! If you have any new info on your KEY/START problem please post. My car is back in the shop today and they still have no IDEA what it is.

This doesn't sound that hard! Replace the cylinder with a new key as they would if the car was stolen, T
