Too much fuel pumping in carb and cuts off Sign In

Hello, I have a 1989 Chevy Caprice Classic LS Brougham, 305/V8. The car will start but there is a lot of gas pumping into the carb and then is shuts off. There are 3 lines going to the fuel pump, but there are 2 lines at the top of the trunk that are not connected to anything. Could the mechanic have put on the wrong pump or did not connect it properly?

I'm not exactly sure of what you are seeing. But if you can literally see gas pouring down the car, enough that it kills the engine, you have a carb problem and it needs to be rebuilt.

Possibly a bad needle & seat or a sunk float

"Lines at the top of the trunk"?

If you have a carbureted car, there should be no fuel lines in the back of the car. Someone may have done a fuel injection for carb swap or something like that in the past and may be using the wrong fuel pump.
