To all of those who are ASE certified.... Sign In

Im preparing for the A1 and A5 test in may. Could anyone who's been there, recommend things to study, or any material they have found useful? I have already found a lot of the free practice exams, and study guides. Was wondering if anyone had some words of wisdom for me?
Thanks!

If you have the sample tests and study guides that's a big help right away. It's always nice to have an idea of the format before you go take them.

Just remember as with the samples when they do that "Mechanic A or Mechanic B, Neither or Both" trick it will send you off to choose the wrong answer like many tricky multiple choice exams.

Move on and do all the ones you are more sure of first then go back and work on the ones that seem like two answers could be correct.

Been taking these since ASE was called N.I.A.S.E. (National Institute) and about the same. Redo's are quicker next round.

Brush up on any vocabulary and acronyms now as they don't come with a glossary. I've known a ton of techs do real poorly and only because of language issues NOT because they didn't know what was going on.

I shouldn't bash these folks but they got expensive just to take the exams then try to sneak in laws that only techs that pass are allowed to work in that area. Keep in mind - this isn't hands on testing! It's more SAT style if you ever took those.

Don't let it get to you if you don't pass. You'll know why and in what areas later either way and be better set for the next try. Keep at it as it's worth it either for your own piece of mind or an advantage for job seeking,

Try www.asecert.org and click on resources or try here http://asecert.org/...des_and_Booklets.htm
They may not have a lot, but it is some of the questions they test on. Good luck. One other thing to remember--USUALLY if you see the words ALEAYS or NEVER, they are USUALLY wrong.
