What: 90 Maxima 3.0
Prob: Occasional stall, erratic idle, would not accelerate. Symptoms inconsistent to the point of requiring frequent use of "dammit" wrench.
Componets ruled out as possible causes: MAF, CMP, CKP, fuel pressure, injectors, un-metered air, base time, knock sensor, TPS, WOT, spark, and EGR.
Self-diagnostics that helped: None. ECM not scanner compatible. Communications limited to flashing LEDs. No DTCs.

After two hours-long sessions of hair-pulling frustration, symptoms occurred while DVOM was connected to O2S. Voltage went low, engine would not accelerate. HALLELUJAH!! No eleventh-hour death row inmate getting a call from the Governor has ever felt more reprieved than I did at that moment! Replace sensor, problem resolved.

Final actions: Re-assemble everything to working order, close hood, gather tools thrown in anger. (anyone seen my 3 pound hammer?)

ELECTRONICS YOU GOTTA LOVE THEM.
Every time I think I’ve got a handle on a certain system, Fred (the computer) and his gang of sensors find a new why of humbling me. LOL

Good ol' Fred. A few years back, I worked at the Ford place and they weren't wired to give access to real-time info. Codes only, then you had to get Bob to help.

When the customer came to get his Maxima, he told us he'd had the car to three other shops, including the dealer. Now I don't feel like such a dummy. Trouble-shooting hard consistent faults isn't so bad, but some complaints are like chasing ghosts. How do you know when you catch one?
