Good afternoon,

I have gone to two auto mechanics for this problem, and unfortunately none of them can figure out what is wrong.

Periodically the temperature gauge rises very close to HOT when I am stopped at either a red light or stuck in traffic. However, when I get out of the car and feel the hood, it doesn't feel warm at all. It feels fine.

I just never know when it is going to happen, which makes me feel very uneasy, especially when I am caught in traffic.

There are times when it rises close to the HOT level when I am just five minutes into my drive. Other times, I will go weeks without any problems.

The second mechanic I went to did a coolant flush, but that didn't seem to help.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm running out of options.

check to make sure the fans are working. if your car has two both should be on at the same time also.

hi do your cooling fan/s turn on when it's near the hot mark?' you may be able to check the operation of the fans , they should turn on when you turn the AC on also when you have the heat on in the defrost position if not check the fuses for cooling fan. when it is going near hot does the coolant expand into the overflow tank like it should ? Are you sure it is actually over heating and not just a guage problem? Is the check engine light illuminated , does it act up at hiway speeds when there is lots of air flow thruogh the radiator if fans and everything else check out ok you could have a head gasket problem but more information would be usefull to us
