TIRES Sign In

I HAVE A '01 CHEV 1500 LT 4X4 WITH 16x6.5" 6-BOLT RIMS.

WHAT-IF ANY-DANGER IS THERE IN CHANGING TO A 16x8" 6-BOLT RIM WITH THE THE SAME TIRES?

THANX

Re: TIRES Sign In

That all depends on the size of the tires. If they aren't wide enough to be properly seated to the beads of the rim you will have a very dangerous truck.

Re: TIRES Sign In

A 75 series tire on an 8 inch rim. That's not good. The rim is wider than the tire.

Re: TIRES Sign In

FROM WHAT I KNOW ABOUT TIRES...THE P245 OF A P245/75R16 IS THE WIDTH OF THE TIRE. IS THAT NOT CORRECT? IN THIS CASE...IT WOULD BE 9.65". AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

Re: TIRES Sign In

That would be a measurement across the cross section, not at the bead. that would be considerably less. the 75 is the aspect ratio which means it;'s a relatively narrow tire considering the height and would have a footprint considerably narrower. It would not be a correct mount on an 8" rim.

Re: TIRES Sign In

MANY THANX FOR THE CLARIFICATION.

WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST REPLACEMENT TIRE SIZE FOR AN 8" RIM TO MEET THE SAME DIAMETER (95.7") OF MY TIRES-SO AS TO NOT CHANGE THE VEHICLE SPEED/SPEEDO?

THANX

Re: TIRES Sign In

That's not the way things should be done. You don't match a tire to a wheel, you match a wheel to the correct tire.
