Sticky Hood Latch

I have an AMC Eagle that for the most part is reliable. Sat most of the winter but now in need of maint. I pull the handle and it seems as though i cannot get the last 1/2 inch of play to release the hood latch. WHAT CAN I DO? thx

Try hard to get it open one more time. Have a helper push down on hood then let go may get you thru this time. If not you may be able to trip it from underneath or thru grille with long screwdrivers or whatever works.
When you get it open see if you can adjust the cable and in any case lube up the whole latch and keep it lubed up periodically.
You should be able to bend something or get it adjusted. Test your tries with hood open and set latch to lock so you don't go thru this again. If nothing works a new cable may be all that works. If you have to wait for one put a wire to where the orig goes and string it thru grille or where ever so you can still close the hood all the way for now, Good luck, T
