Steering has much more play than before Sign In

Last Summer I bought a 2001 Acura Integra SE. Up until a few weeks ago, the steering was nice and tight. It had good resistance to the turning of the wheel and held me on my course quite well.

Then, I got stuck on a service road by accident, and this thing was bumpy as all hell (huge pot holes and such). I was on it for awhile, and when I finally got off, my steering suddenly had much more play. The next day it had a bit more and its been like that ever since. The resistance it had before is now gone (though it still centers itself quick enough and well). I feel potholes and bad roads jerk me a bit now, way more than it used to. When I brake sometimes, the steering dips left to right really quickly (but minimally and not nearly enough to throw me off, but an annoyance). When braking and not touching the wheel, the car dips to the right a bit.

I had my steering and such looked at and was told nothing was wrong and that I didn't need an alignment. On the one hand, taking corners and turning the wheel is quite effortless. On the other hand, it seems the car has sacrificed road stability and it requires more correction now, as opposed to before when it would be more smooth because the steering was tighter. It feels like its not centering itself as strongly as it used to maybe.

The car is definitely drivable. Its just uncomfortable sometimes because its a little sketchy on bad roads and potholes when I can feel it tug me.

Any ideas as to what it could be, what I need to get checked and what I could do to get it back to what it used to be like?

I would have the front end checked by another mechanic to get a another opinion... Had a Acura Vigor with similar problem and the rack and pinion was loose... Had the bushing replaced that mounts it to the the frame and was just as good as before... Could be anything else but you will only know if someone knows what to look for..

Its not called bragging,, if you can back it up....
