Hello to any and all. This is my first post in this forum, but I am sure it will not be my last. I am a self-proclaimed car guy with dreams and aspirations of building/restoring a streetable track worthy car...I'm thinking Corvair. I digress, my son(12) and I are attempting to cut out teeth by rebuilding an old go-cart. I started the process with the basics; clean/re-built carb, replace all dry rotted hoses, new oil, new fuel and filter, new air filter, new plug. Had to replace pull cord after it stapped on the third yank, dry rotted. After all that I attempted to start and got nadda. Check the main 3 (fuel/air/spark). Removed plug and inserted pinky into cyclinder...fuel present. Gave it a yank to check for spark...nothing. Removed plug and inserted pinky into plug wire and gave it a yank...ouch! So, there is fire in the wire, but no spark on the plug. Suggestions? Just and FYI, it is the OEM spec plug.

2 suggestions..... spark tester & compression gauge.
A weak coil will give you a jolt & you want at least 100 lbs psi comp.... check that & go from there.....

Just what kind of an engine are we talking about? Never heard of a 3 cylinder before, air or water cooled. You mentioned Corvair, which were 6 cylinders, but they sure as heck didn't have a rope start.

Check the main 3 (fuel/air/spark). Hey Loren, I think he meant the 3 things needed for the engine to run. Not the amount of cylinders on the engine.
Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Geeeeez! I just wish they'd beam me up. Gonna go back to sleep,now. Did the same thing with tests in school. I'd just 'skim' the questions. Got me about as far. LMAO.

Jason; Depending on how old this engine is, it may have points and condensor under the flywheel.

Pull the flywheel and clean the points if it is an old engine.
