So my mom called me the other morning and said her car broke down and needed to be towed home. She has a 04 Hyundai elantra gls. She said it just shut down. I cranked the engine and heard what sounded like a broken timing belt. It didn't make sense because it was just replaced. I took off the valve cover and had her crank the engine, and found the timing belt still turning. I haven't checked the fuel pump voltage yet but I do hear it kick on. The filter is part of the pump assembly so I can't check that. Any ideas??

Just because a timing belt is turning, does not mean it is OK. Take a compression test to find out for sure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sorry it took me a while to get back but would a cold compression test matter in this case?

No, you're looking for extremes anyway.
