Re: Sound Sign In

Sounds like it could be the belt or one of the pulleys. How old is the belt? A car I was working on today a squeaky belt. I removed belt and noticed a bunch of old rubber inside the groove on the power steering pump pulley. While the belt was off I took a wire brush, cleaned up all the pulleys, and problem solved. If it is the belt they sell some stuff called belt dressing. I haven't had much luck with it. You might just need to replace the belt if it hasn't been replaced in awhile.

The belt is normally the cause but not always. I quick way to tell if it's coming from one of the accessories and by taking the belt off and starting the car briefly. Don't sit there and let it run. Just enough to know if it squeaks. If you don't hear the squeak you know it's coming from either the belt or one of accessories or pulleys. You can also try and turn each pulley by hand while the engine is off and the belt is removed to see if you feel any kind of resistance.

Make sure you read the forum rules. You really need to post what kind of vehicle you having the issue with. I'm not one of them, but there are a handful of professional mechanics on here who donate their time and may be able to give you a pretty good idea of what it is if they know what type of vehicle you're dealing with.

Re: Sound Sign In

Don't post a noise from someone else's car to diagnose a problem with yours. It only helps if you post your own noise.
