Slight shake in steering when first braking Sign In

1998 Ford Taurus Station Wagon
3.0/6cy
128000 miles

When traveling at speeds over 40 mph when I first apply the brakes I will get a shimmy, but as I apply more presure on the breaks the shimmy goes away. If I am under 40 mph I get no shimmy or shake at all. What might be causing my mini shake?

That's usually a problem with the brake rotors and replacing them will solve it.

Sometimes they get a variation in thickness that causes a hard pulsation and sometimes they are out of paralell which will give you the symptom you have.

You'll have to use a dial indicator to confirm this.
