I have a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. The drivers side mirror started to discolor. It started at the top and has worked its way 3/4 of the way down. I need to know how to remove the mirror. It is a heated one. I also need to find a replacement. Several people have said I will need to replace with just a no-heating one. I have no problem doing this except I can't find one to fit. Any suggestions?

What I know so far - others jump on in:
It's probably cheapest to leave the mirror in place and find a pre-cut replacement perhaps even thru a dealer but more likely aftermarket. If old glass is still there some heat from it should still transfer if glued onto it carefully.
An auto glass specialty shop should be able to cut one to size for you also. Went thru this with more common ''TRUCK" large side view mirrors and learned a lot. There are precut ones fairly easy to find for those - cars will be tougher no doubt. I'm pretty sure for an entire unit, heat, motor and all you'd freak at the price!
I still recall the manufacturer of aftermarket stick on exact replacements "Motormite" of all names and pretty sure I was at a now closed parts store called Advance Auto in this area. $10-$15 bucks!
TMK + BTW - the only way I know that the glass alone will come off is to smash it with a hammer and clean up the surface it mounts to unseen - this one would have two wires to heater for it. The most recent I did replace because of it being cracked and did smash out the old one for a better surface catching the bits in a 1/2 cut box while playing "Bam-Bam" on it! I really think it's glued on ONCE and not to be removed in one piece again so used won't work without getting a whole unit.
Also noted: Origs seem to all be mounted with glue dots such that water can't accumulate behind them and freeze to crack so keep that in mind with water/gravity and do what will drain or it would break right away when both wet and cold enough. Good luck,
