Service Engine Soon light

I have a 96 Saturn SL1 & when I'm driving the Service Engine Soon light comes on & stays on & then after a while it goes off. Now I know I can take it to Auto Zone & they can check it out right? But according to the/our mechanic he says it's/there's a glitch somewhere. Is that right?

Yes it's very possible. You need to know the code to start with. If you have a regular mechanic you go to, can't he read the code for you?
