I have a seat ibiza 1.6s 1995. The oil light comes on after a while driving but goes off quickly. The engine did however cut out yeaterday but started again right away and the oil light did not come back on.
I've checked under the bonnet and there is no oil leak but some water escaping from the a at front of oil tank which bubbles as it is boiling. Is this simply the car overheating and the oil level rising causing the problem? Will it be sorted by putting more water in until I can get a repair or will this cause engine damage?
I have been told it may be a problem with the water pump causing the engine to overheat and may need this replaced but am unsure. Thanks for any help!

First learn the difference between engine oil and coolant/anti-freeze for raditor/cooling system. I believe the univeral symbol for oil will be an oil can with a drip and temperature will show a thermometer. Red warning lights mean serious business and need immediate attention. Some cars will have a warning light that oil or coolant is low as well.
Fill the fluid that is low with the correct product for that car and find out right away why it was low. A water pump can easily be the source of a leak and can have bearing failure so just keeping it full is not the answer.
Engine might consume some oil now and then. It should not consume coolant. You can prevent further damage by tending the these things right away.
