Sign In My car won't stay running when cranked. It sputters and then goes dead. It also dies when the gas pedal is pressed. It idles high for a brief moment also. What could potential problems be? The check engine light does come on. 1998 Saturn SL2 1.9 litre around 170,000 miles. Any car that doesn't run well will set off the CEL after a while or if engine stalls it would likely be on. Do a fuel pressure check would be first on my list.
