Saturn L200 Rear Left Wheel STUCK! Sign In

Hi I hope that someone can help me. I went to get in my car and back up and the rear left wheel would not move at all. The other three wheels were perfectly fine and when I would try to back up the whole car would move almost ontop of the wheel. There was some grinding noises and I could smell the gas building up from the car not going anywhere. Someone told me it might be the wheel bearings but I'm not sure. Can anyone give me some insight? I am a freshman at college and dont want to be taken advantage of at a car shop. Thanks!

Frozen brake - bearing unlikely. Can't say what that will take to fix but you'll need to tow it,

Well I was under the impression that the rear breaks were just for the E break but I guess I'm wrong.
It got towed but the car shop was closing, now I have to call tomorrow and I just dont want them to take advantage of the fact that I dont know anything.
Thank you for your answer. :)

Cars have brakes at each wheel and emergency (parking) brake usually is using the same brake of the rear wheels or a separate brake at rear wheels. Could be a fault with either but damage to either also.

Rare and not this car but some use front wheels for parking brake. You just won't know till the shop takes it apart which could be tricky too while stuck.

Expect that whatever is wrong with that wheel also be suggested to replace on the other.

Don't be afraid to ask the shop just what they find and the right way to fix it - and of course what it will cost.

Trust me - you aren't the first college student the shops nearby have dealt with. Start off trusting them as you'll no doubt need something else someday.

Good luck with the fix. Chances are this isn't something you were apt to fix on your own away at school,

does your car have rear drum brakes or disc brakes?

does your car sit unused for an extended period of time?

make sure someone isnt playing a nasty prank on you and wedged something in your wheel. we all know how drunk college kids can be sometimes.

possibilities
if its drum brakes, the shoes could have rusted to the drum.

the emergency brake cables could be seized in the ON position.
