Saturn - Starter does not always respond to key Sign In

I bought a 98 Saturn SL2 recently and finding some electrical problems - is it as simple as a new battery - Some times the ignition does not respond to the key. Sometimes there is a delay (1-2 secs) between turning the key and the starter engaging. Some mornings the Radio stations and clock are no longer set. Any ideas on where to start looking?

Check battery connections; be sure they are clean of corrosion and tight. Have battery and alternator checked. Check connections to starter.

To add: Check battery cables at battery and engine block end and at starter motor,

Thanks Jayeffel and Tom Greenleaf - I checked and cleaned all major connections for the battery cables - Ground wire connection to the block, Positive to the fuse box - All looked clean, but we'll see - I test started it 6 times with no incidents - let's see how it treats my wife. Thanks again for the sanity check!
