Running like it's out of gas Sign In

1975 Ford F-150 - V8

I recently replaced the carburetor and fuel filter. I took it for a drive and it ran fine for about a mile. After I turned around to head back, it began running like it was out of gas, sputtering and got worse when you gave it gas. It ran like this for about a mile then died. It started back up and ran fine back to the house.

After I got it back to the house I turned it off and let it sit for a while. I took the gas hose off the carb and started it up quickly to check the fuel pump and it was pumping gas fine.

Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing it to run like it did?

All input is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Guesses: Did you check for fuel to flow after the fuel filter? If so fine then check for fuel pressure of about 4-6 PSI. If before the filter, filter could be clogged especially at the age and I think only a small filter used wouldn't take much junk to clog it,

Thanks. I did not check for fuel flow after the filter. The filter was replaced with the carb. Before replacing the carb, I removed the tank, drained the gas, and cleared the lines. The gas coming from the fuel pump is clean, but I guess something could still be in the line. I will check the fuel pressure.

If the filter like I recall it's dang small and wouldn't take much to clog or slow it down. I recall adding in line larger filters, well thought out where to place them that could deal with more, before the OE one would help a problematic situation if that's the issue at all,
