When I first crank up, veh. passes running temp but continues to the point of running hot. Stays in the red for a couple of minutes then drops to normal; like the therm is not opening. It has never reached the point of "boiling over", but when it gets in the red I can detect the odor of anit-freeze which has led me to believe that it is in fact over heating. This has a temp. controlled clutch fan that will 'freewheel' when cool, but should 'lock up' once engine temp is reached. The symptoms smack of a sticky thermostat, but three? A long shot, but could be an impeller problem, but would be getting hot all of the time, not just in the transfer from cold to warm.
