Please help! 1999 nissan altima 2.4 liter 179,000 miles. Never had any problems then as i was going it started skipping and rpms hand started jumping up and down then it stalled out. Put in new fuel pump and filter, still had little skip and sometimes like nothing wrong. drove for 2 months nothing. Then it started back idling rough and changed spark plugs wires distobutor cap and still skipping sometimes. Then it got to where it would cut off just going down road wait few minutes and would crank up and run fine. then next time idling rough. changed alternator and battery. doing the something. Out of money now but cant afford car and ins. Any thoughts? Car wont show codes at all like computer not working so guy said it would be a guessing game on senors. Cant afford! It use to work cause auto zone hook it up when this first started and it read one knock senor. Could this make my car idle rough? also after i had battery and alternator i have drove much but would go and crank it then one day battery dead took it to napa only 2 months old they said no charge on it so replaced but i seen a wire on top of alternator like a connector with wire going into engine and it is melted and crispy, not sure why he didnt change this wire and want is that wire for? could this cause issue and run my battery dead? please help me!!

OK - you are all over the place with this question. I suggest a better, higher end code reading or know that it can't communicate. Tossing parts is why you are running out of bucks for this.

Nice of parts outlets to read codes but take that with the code #s and find out the approach NOT just replace parts based on initial readings as they don't know if the item is bad or wiring to it.

You mentioned a crispy melted wire. No telling with just that but not right of course. Until that is figured out and solved there's no telling what to do next,

The car will not read codes so what could cause this? when it first started it did read a knock sensor and the next time it was hooked up to computor it wouldnt show any codes. could a fuse be blown cause it not to show codes?

There's a chance owner's manual has that also for fuses, amps and locations or someone here may have access to that. You could just check them for continuity now.

Try a different code reader if not communicating,
