Resistance??? Sign In

Hi. I have an issue with my car and have tried searching but it's hard to even describe. I have an 07 Accord 4 cyl. With 350 000 Kms!! It seems when I'm driving at constant speeds that the engine is stuttering and won't stay steady as if I'm driving in a lot of wind or there is some resistance. It is very frustrating even to describe but I feel it and I know this car since I've put all those Kms on myself. Last week I replaced both O2 sensors and got a new catalytic converter but no significant change. With the new parts it felt a little better but the fluctuation in speed is still there. It is fine when I accelerate and the speed is climbing and also holds steady when in cruise control if that helps. Also it still happens with A/C on or off. And the car idles fine in park. I need to get this fixed but don't want to just bring it to some one to play a guessing game while I drop tons of money on this car that I've driven the hell out of. My next guess was to change the plugs since its been a while?? Other then that basic maintenance I have no clue. Thanks for any help!!!! Dan

? Nobody wants to waste $$ so why did you toss O2 sensors and converter without verifying they were bad?

Codes would help and easy to check for vacuum leaks. Plugs should look all the same as one another and fine to go new if they are evenly looking a bit old and worn but use OE only plugs.

Idles fine - suggests it 's mostly OK so it's codes, vacuum leaks, fuel pressure up the par for a beginning. Full tune up might be in order. You could try just misting with slightly salted water the wires and high voltage items for a reaction - shouldn't change anything and toss items that might clearly show spark jumping around or arcing of any kind,

Sorry didn't mention that my engine check light was coming on and off and indicating that O2 sensors are acting up. I replaced them then the Cat because thought it would help and I get parts at cost so wasn't that much.

Does a tune up include checking for vacuum leaks etc? What do you mean by codes? I have a code reader but only use when engine light comes on etc. thanks for your advice!

Tune up? What it means is different to many. I would call that a "periodic maintenance" as listed in the owner's manual what should be checked or replaced based on Kms and time.

No check engine light (thing just an amber engine graphic on this) may not light at all - bulb or other reason. Try to see if it lights with key on run but engine off as a bulb check.

It can have codes pending your device may not catch need better equipment for that.

Rule out anything late or obvious. You have enough Kms for many possible things. Vacuum leaks can be check with engine running spraying carb cleaner at parts that should be holding vacuum. If that changes engine idle that's a problem spot. Rubber lines, throttle body and intake manifold gaskets and areas.

I'd look for even condition on plugs then go ahead after that and clean throttle body, IAC. If one plug looks different than the other you need to find out why and what type of different it appears.

A compression test is probably in order.

Are you sure it's engine at all? Could it possibly be a dragging brake? As said, at the Kms worth checking this car out pretty well all around,

Kind of funny to read this and see that your guessing yourself and replacing parts it probably doesn't need. The money you spent on parts could been used to easily pay the diagnostic fee of a licensed and reputable repair shop that specializes in drive-ability diagnosis.

Lol. Yeah it's hilarious. The sensors and Cat were recommendations of my mechanic. I guess I am going to look for a new mechanic that can run proper diagnostics.

Thanks for your great input. I am going to find a reputable mechanic that can test all the things you mentioned. Thanks again for making my first time ever posting on any forum a positive one.
