Removing Power Steering Pump	Sign In

I have a 1996 Cadillac Eldorado ETC with 79K miles. I would like to replace my Power Steering Pump. Do I have to remove the serpentine belt and do I have to remove the top pulley. Does the top pulley come off with a wheel puller.

your def going to have to remove the belt. your going to have swap the original pulley onto the replacment part more then likely. i would remove the pulley while the pump is bolted to the engine, it will make it easier to work on since its steady instead of trying to clamp it down in a vise and risk dropping and damaging something

they make a special puller that you can rent from your local auto zone to remove the pulley from the pump.

Ditto: I haven't run across need to do any on anything for quite a while and have that puller. Even then it's a pain so I tend to look for real good used ones with all brackets, tank and whatever you are supposed to swap to a new or remanufactured one. I don't know for this but the same pump may be used on many GM cars - salvage yards have listings for this if you go that way. Either way watch out not to mess up the pulley or buy one that's messed up,
