Removing Passenger Seat / Carpet Sign In

Hello well getting back to the old problem i had ( water collecting in my car) I originally diagnosed it as being a trunk seal (which it was leaking and since a makeshift repair has stopped) it's been raining today and everything inside was dry. I took the car for a run on the highway about 5 miles to go somewhere and got back and noticed that behind the passenger seat was wet again (originally i just though it was water running down from the trunk, but after i repaired that problem i pulled up the capet a little bit just now and noticed a small little rust hole which is how i think water is getting up in there. I'm probally going to end up welding it shut as it's so small but want to get the capet up and out of the way first. So is removing the front passenger seat as simple as removing the 4 bolts that hold it in place?

Thanks,

Jim

Re: Removing Passenger Seat / Carpet Sign In

Hi Jim,

If YOU are capable of welding in a new peice of metal that great! Watch out for what's around the area of course.

Ok: You won't like this but if the floor is rusted enough to have a hole than it's highly likely the simple bolts for the seat will be a nightmare or break right off! Damn flicking rust!

Take a good look under the car and many will show threads of the bolts for a seat and welded on nut to the floor pan. You can pretty well tell from there whether is going to break or not. Oxy/acet torch heat might do but not a good place to use heat with any carpet material so it stinks. I've broken them and drilled thru complete new holes and used high rated bolts and nuts when I've had to remove a seat AND the bolts broke off.

Any way you can just leave the seat and hold carpet out of the way? That would help a lot if possible.

In the meantime just seal it with whatever you can till you choose an approach. If in a non structural spot the bondo type approach is ok for a while. You never win the rust battle forever though - pet peave of mine!

Just an idea here. Have you thought of trying some 2 part epoxy? You may be able to mix some up and place it on the inside of the vehicle. It will save any possibility of starting a fire in the carpet. Again, this is just a thought.
