Release Cable for Fuel Cover 04 Civic Sign In

My son has a 04 Honda Civic that will not open the fuel cover when he presses(pulls?) the release from inside the car. He has tried a credit card to manually release the cover with no luck.

He had the same problem about a year ago and the car was still under warranty. The dealer replaced this cable at that time and he was fine.

Any suggestions on how to open the cover? Any suggestions on how to proceed with the same problem reoccurring in about a years time?

Any guidance or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Walt

Isn't there an override in the trunk/hatch for this? Most do,

I had my son look inside the trunk for a release, but he said he could not find one. Would the release be behind a panel in the trunk or what would he be looking for?

Thanks for your help

Owner's manual may say exactly where it is. You may have to move a piece of trim to get at it but almost all cars with these things that release from the cabin have another if it fails. Forcing them open can cause damage that is costly - some don't hurt too much to do that. Can't say for that one,

Re: Release Cable for Fuel Cover 04 Civic Sign In

Thanks for the help. He was able to pull back the top of his lining inside the trunk on the side of the gas cap(Just enough so he could get his hand in behind the lining). He then was able to find the cable and follow the cable until it connected to a plastic coupling. Turning this connector a 1/4 turn popped open the door covering the gas cap.
