So, I guess you're assuming that there will suddenly be a million additional car buyers out there or are you expecting to take all these sales away from the existing auto companies.

I also assume you and the rest of your UAW workers are going to reach into their own, overpaid pockets to bankroll this venture.

I wouldn't expect too much success in that combo since the UAW and the Feds are what bankrupted the company in the first place.

Re: Ideas on restarting AMC to get Americans back to work Sign In

AMC went the way of the dodo for the same reason the dodo went the way of the dodo; they wouldn't adapt and became obsolete. A union venture non-profit? Run by the government whose idea of a balanced budget is trillions in debt and just jack up the taxes on smokes while they say there will be no new taxes? If I wanted a big bag of crap there are thousands of people in this country wearing colostomy bags. By the way, the unions and automakers send a few million in funds a year to the politicians to keep the status quo. Why do you think the idiots bailed them out instead of allowing a free market to run its course? I've worked in a union before, and enjoyed the perks. But there is no reason why some guy with a GED should expect to make $40,000+ a year and benefits just for driving a forklift and be almost unfireable so long as he simply shows up to work.

That's all we need, another car company. I think we should be focusing on building more solar power stations and getting off this fossil fuel charade. Make solar technology cheaper to produce, so everyone can afford it.

You gotta have some sun unless you live in perpetual darkness...LOL. You have geothermal up there don't ya? We can sell you the electricity we make...I'll charge you 5 cents a watt.

Quote
In order to fulfill the RPS mandates, Massachusetts enacted a strong solar rebate and tax incentive program to help promote the adoption of solar power throughout the state. Massachusetts’ main solar rebate program, Commonwealth Solar — organized by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, has supported more than $65 million of solar energy investment since its inception. The Commonwealth Solar program was so popular that it quickly ran out of funds and was replaced with the Commonwealth Solar II program in 2010. As a result of both of these programs, Massachusetts has dedicated over $160 million to support renewable energy and investments in solar energy and with federal funds, this amount increases to almost $330 million. On top of this, the Patrick administration has publicly set an aggressive goal to have 250 megawatts of solar energy installed by 2017. That is a serious commitment to solar power.

1megawatt per hour can power 1000 homes on average. 250,000 homes powered by the sun is kind of cool.

Re: Ideas on restarting AMC to get Americans back to work Sign In

WinkWink Not far North enough for ZERO sun but the angle is useless in the Winter. You about literally cast a 40 foot shadow it gets so low. Conversely we get MORE sun in Summer than you do but 1/2 the year just isn't useful. Some folks try to bolster water heaters but again NG for Winter.

Now in places where it's more uniform - now we are talking but doubt they could add to the grid enough for the rest. What we do have as far as I know is just a dependable tide to harness, both ebb and flow but nobody will let you harm a fish to try that. Love the electric cars and folks don't realize that the electricity comes 50% from COAL - just what they were trying to avoid. Once there was a project ready for wind turbines in the ocean but that was squished too.

Hydro-electric - some and some operating but not much as there isn't a lot of rivers to dam up to make more with dependable flow and ones that go down because of age get shut down for good.

There's a lot of people up North in US. For New England electric is coal, nukes, and Niagara Falls can reach here with abundant power. Whole thing is still a rock and a hard place to make one size fits all for cars and my take is use it all not target just one source,

Re: Ideas on restarting AMC to get Americans back to work Sign In

the UAW and other blue collar unions started out simiple enough. Safe working conditions and haveing thier salaries tied proportionallyto the execs . The execs took their salries to the moon and the workers salaries went right along with them. Bring the multi million exec salaries and bonuses down to earth and the blue collar wages fall in line . GM got in trouble because it would not change with the times , they had to many divisions selling the same car with different trim . Their bailout brought in fresh minds and brought the mega salaries in line which brought blue collar pay down . Cut a lot of fat (includin union pork) . GM is now in the black and has repaid the bailout money with interest.,,

Not paid in cash yet RT. They paid in their own stock but probably will all be good. Like GM or not I say we (Americans) need them if only for national defense in a very serious emergency. Who else but the big three could manufacture some wacko new ground machines if ever needed?

Here some compressed natural gas. Should be able to power several houses off this.

Would be nice to be around when they get fusion reactors on line. I don't see why molten salt reactors aren't replacing uranium fission reactors.

Wrong kind of "natural" gas. Sorry T, most airport support trucks and a lot of postal trucks are running CNG. Filling stations are slowly coming into play, NM. postal have tanks dated and are replaced long before exp. date just as precaution. I'm going to stand on my soapbox until they lease my property again.

They tried that around here 15 years ago and they could give it away. Even the municipalities threw in the towel and went back to Gasoline.
