Hello" I also have an 1998 Grand prix 3800Gt. I have the same problem at the moment. I started the car one morning to worm up and the check engine light came on than started to shake so i put the car in drive and than it shut off. Since than car has not started back up. It cranks good but still wont start up. A machanic said i needed a fuel pump so i installed a fuel pump but that didnt do the trick. Than they said Coil packs so i installed the packs as well and still no reaction. today im going to change the spark plugs and wires and see if that does the job...... Any suggestions please reply. Thanx

I have moved this question away from the old question it was added to so it has a thread of it's own.

Well before you start changing parts here and there you got to find out what your missing, fuel, compression or spark.

Take a spark plug out ground the threaded metal part to negative terminal on battery or on body. have a friend crank engine over and see if there is spark.
if there is no spark could be a ignition module(thing the coils plug into), crank sensor, electrical problems

On GM 3.8L i don't think they have a shrader valve on fuel rail. So checking fuel pressure can be little tricky. Take gas cap off and listen while somone cycles the key to see if you hear fuel pump cycle. You can take a test light and back probe an injector and see if it pulses while cranking, use stethoscope to here it pulsing or take out a plug and see if it smells like fuel.

here is a few things you can try to lead you in the right direction once your headed in right direction post us back so we can help you further

Yes it does. You may have to pop the plastic cover off to see it. It should be right next to the pressure regulator.

Wow, you're alllll over the board on this one..... As suggested you need to find out what you're missing 1st. Spark or fuel?

Something easy you can do is get a can of carb clean and spray some down the throttle body. If the engine starts & dies then you are looking at a fuel problem and can stop throwing ign parts at it...........
