Hi, I'm new to posting, but I have a very important question. First, 2002 Saturn L200 101,000 miles Recently, when I start my engine I've heard this loud sound resembling some one sticking a finger in a ceiling fan. After some investigation, my friends and I have narrowed the sound down to an area underneath the driver's side. Also, this loud noise tends to go away as I accelerate. Any insight into the cause of this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What this sounds like is a timing chain rattling. They have a very long chain that will act just like that when the chain gets loose whiich will happen when the plastic guides wear out. The reason it goes away is because the tensioner builds up oil pressure. You need to have this checks because a broken chain or one that just jumps timing can cost you an engine in this car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
