Random horn honking [x-post from steering and suspension] Sign In

For the past couple of days my horn has been randomly honking itself while I have been driving. The first signs of it came when making sharp left turns, it would honk a single time if I turned my steering wheel too sharply to the left. However, it has gotten much worse and now randomly honks no matter what. When I take the horn fuse off, it stops honking, but the horn fuse also controls my radio, so no radio either. I pulled the horn relay off and put the fuse back in so now my radio works and the horn is no longer working because of no horn relay. Does anyone know what would cause my horn to randomly start honking itself? Any help would be much appreciated. Also I just remembered, that when the horn was randomly honking itself and I pushed on my steering wheel or airbag cover where you normally push to sound the horn, it would stop. Car is a 2000 Dodge Stratus ES 2.5L V6 with 80,000 miles.

That is usually caused buy a deteriorated horn switch but the problem will be that the horn switch is often incorporated as part of the air bag which makes it very expensive.

Thanks, will my car be okay to drive with the horn relay off? The air bag won't deploy while I'm driving for no reason right or will I need to get the horn switch fixed?

You can leave the relay out. You just won't have a horn. The air bag is safe.
