I drive a Chevy Silverado, extended cab 1500 series pick up. The fuel gage apparently stopped working and I ran out of gas although the gage read 1/4 of a tank. After adding six gallons of gas, pouring fuel directly on the manifold, rocking it back and forth, and checking for spark it would not start. I checked the relay switch, it seemed fine, I don't know if I have fuel cut off switch, and I don't know the priming procedure or if it has one. The engine would turn, and sound like it wanted to start, but it didn't. I did notice after adding fuel, my fuel gage would not move at all.(Even though it wasn't reading the correct amount of gas, it did respond when I put gas in it over the past two weeks. This is about how long my fuel gage has been acting strangely.) Alas, I was stuck. So I had it towed to a dealership near my house, I don't have mechanic as I never have problems with my trucks...as I write this it's getting a diagnostic. I'm concerned about what the problem might be and the price of fixing it.. Any tips, ideas or similar expeirences? Help. I'm worried.

A Fuel pressure check is in order, and you probably need a new "sender for your gauge and the pump" They don't like running dry. They come as one unit for some cars. Expect $300+ possible, but it really needs hands on testing to know. Try to start again but don't burn out your starter motor. A few seconds, then let it cool down or you'll need that too. Good luck,
