I took the car to PEP BOYS and they said the couldn't do the rear alignment because the bolts at the end of the rods showing on the pic were frozen shut.
My Q is how hard is to replace them and if I do will that affect the alignment. Also how do you suggest I remove them. Thanx

Re: REAR ALIGNMENT PEPBOYS Sign In

Welcome to the world of RUST!Mad

What is this car anywho? I'd spray those up after light taps with a pointy hamer to let loose stuff fall and cover them in PB. Let it go a while and do it again.

Touchy there using heat but I bet those can clean up - replace ecentric washers if needed and rustproof the area and go for it. Really wouldn't know till it's tried.

Nice pic BTW!

This is a toyota celica 90 . Thanx for the advice but I am not sure I understand what you mean by PB , you said " ...and cover them with PB." Is that like grease, and also what stuff you recommend I should spray the bolts with? thanx again

PB = Power Blaster Sign In

PB = Power Blaster (TM) is a spray rust penetrating oil. It's particularly good as they go! If time allowed I'd spray that on the area and the threads unseen in the pic and wait - next day or whatever and see how it goes.

Those shown by you are "off-center" washers (the hole isn't in the middle) that lock in an increased or decreased distance to that control arm for camber adjustment which is part of alignment.

With those all loosened up it could be seen if they are fit to use or replace as needed. Then I'd spray a rust proofing over the area when done to stop any further progression of corrosion.

That is considered a structurally important part of the car and should be evaluated by a tech as to the safe approach.

That type stuff is above the standard charges for alignment which may be posted.

Use care when spraying stuff to avoid hot exhaust parts, painted items that could be damaged. PB is strong so control overspray as with anything like it,

(on edit) If these can't be freed up to adjust and deemed safe, the place they are postioned now may be within spec or close enough. It would have to be on the alignment machine to know that....
