Some noises are common to the pro ear and some take more testing to know or beat the odds of what. Totally depends on the noise from where IMO, T

Let me add to that ....... that it also depends on the techs experience. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I would be curious to hear the whole story behind the question. It would be similar to guns....Some guns have a very distinct sound when fired. Most experts would be able to tell you what type of gun....Someone one not into guns would have no idea of what type, just that they heard a gun fire....

The sounds that a mechanic hears a car make can be put into 2 groups . One is a ka-ching , the sound of a profitable job . The other is a ker-plop sound , which I don't have to explain. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

Depends on the noise, some noises are very obvious, but some noises have multiple possible causes. If you know a good mechanic they might listen quickly for free.
