Proper gear oil Sign In

1995 Mercury Grand Marquis, 4.6 engine, 155,000 miles

What is the proper type/ viscosity of gear oil for the differential in my 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Re: Proper gear oil Sign In

90w gear oil. If it has Trac lok, you have to add 4 oz of a friction modifier.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

To add: If not sure what differential just hoist rear wheels, car in "N" and spin one. If the other spins the opposite way it's a regular differential. If they spin the same way it has some kind of traction control and would require gear oil or additive as DS mentioned to be right,
