Sign In Im looking into getting a 97 Ford Expedition and the guy said it just needs a tune up and timing. DOes anyone have an average price range on the timing? Thank you. Sign In There is no timing adjustment on that vehicle and the term "tune up" doesn't apply. That's a coil on plug system. If it's the timing chain that has a problem, then your talking "big bucks". It can run well over $1,000 to change the timing chains on that engine. They do have a lot of coil failures though. When someone comes in wanting the "timing set" it almost always means there is something going on they can't figure out......... If it's running poorly....
