Power steering pulley free play?? Sign In

just doing some maintenance....heater hoses, thermostate belt etc. while i was checking the pulleys for any noise or sign of wear, i found the power steering pulley has about 1/16 of an inch of fore/aft movement in it. the pulley is quiet and smooth other wise. Is that normal or a sign of bearing wear in the power steering pump?

i know 1/16 of an inch doesnt sound like much but when the other pulleys stay put and that one has movement it raise eyebrows

You should be OK. To check, go to local parts house and ask to look at one. Pull and push on the shaft. There is some movement, but I have never measured it.
