I own a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire and for some reason there is an option on the "light dial" (a little plastic wheel button with 5 different settings) to turn on the parking lights independently from left, then to right. No other lights (besides the parking lights) are on except the particular side you choose. In what situation is that ever going to be useful? Whats the point? Why go through extra electrical design for nothing? Someone help with this one...

That's standard fare for places in Europe. You would leave the lights on, on the side towards traffic when parked on a street. Ever wonder why we call them "parking" lights? That idea saves the drain on the battery for the lights that aren't needed for this.

Haven't spent much time in Europe but things are different. France mandates amber headlights which is spooky at first.

Remember that Daimler-Benz had ownership of Chrysler for a while,

Tom's right. Europeans use them when parked to notify cars they are there in fog conditions. You can choose what side they go on, as to where you car is situated to traffic. Good call.

I know what you mean Tom about the car's lighting in France. The last time I was in Belgium, you could always tell that someone from France was coming towards you because of the amber headlights. In Belgium the streetlights are amber; now that’s different, makes everything look yellow, what’s better I don’t know. LOL
You know what’s real scary though, when driving in some parts of France or Belgium is that the road to the right has the right of way?
Driving down a two lane highway and you see a vehicle coming toward an intersection from a secondary road, too your right, you had better be ready to give them the right of way; because their coming through.
Scared the crap out of me, between dodging the oncoming car and my father’s screams; “didn’t you read the sign; he has the right of way!”
No dad; I can’t read French or Flemish; aren’t you the navigator? LOL
I know, off topic but I had to tell the story.

Dan.
