PT Cruiser problem - Please help Sign In

I am having problems with my 2002 PT Cruiser, auto transmission, 4 cylinder engine, 154,000.00 Km (sorry I'm not very car savvy..struggling single Mom) anyhow whats happening is I will be driving along and all of a sudden my RPM thing on the dial will completely drop and I lose engine power, the battery is still working fine..radio still going etc. I have to wait a few minutes then my car will start again...but lately I will park it somewhere go shopping and try to start it again and it won't start for a good hour. I got an error code on my odometer saying P0320..when I looked it up it refers to the crankshaft sensor... I know a mechanic and he changed the camshaft sensor thinking that might be causing the problem..it didn't help at all.

What i want to know is how accurate are these codes at pinpointing the problem?? I know i need a new timing belt too... I was told I should get the crankshaft sensor changed at the same time as the timing belt as they are close in vicinity. I'm just worried i'm going to pay for all this work and the problem won't be fixed!!

You got a crank sensor code so you changed a Cam sensor?
Here's what that code actually means.......... P0320 Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction

The codes are not telling you exactly what the problem is. It is giving you specific information about a situation that it saw. That doesn't tell you what caused it. The code has a specific number which identifies a specific circumstance that needs to be diagnosed further.
