Hello, I am considering buying a used 1998 volvos70. I test drove it today & the power lock button only worked for the driver door, when its supposed to control all 4 doors. Also, the rear passenger window wouldn't work using the power button in the driver side. My question, is this something electrical going out in the car? or is it something simple??? I'm supposed to purchase the car this weekend, don't have a lot of $ to be fixing the car up after purchasing it. I'm a single mother of 2 little ones & I am able to purchase a used car with the tax refund I received, after this purchase, I'm back to living paycheck to paycheck! Please let me know as soon as possible! Thanks so much!

did you check to make sure the child locks in the rear door aren't applied?? also sometimes on the drivers door there is a window lock out button that disables the windows except for the drivers window.

Thanks for your response! Yes, i checked all of that out right in front of him and he said "they're going out". The main driver side switch that controls all 4 doors only unlocked/locked the driver door. The main driver side window switch to control all 4 windows only controlled 3 of the 4 windows. No locks were on, the owner was trying to mess with it. My sister made me nervous in saying that could be bad because it could be an electrical problem.. she doesn't know much about cars ad suggested this forum..

it could just simply be that cluster of switches that are bad....not too uncommon. the constant use just wears out the contacts of the switch. Matter of fact i need to replace the door lock switch on one of my cars also.
replacing the switches shouldn't be too expensive.
remove the door panel.
disconnect wiring harness
remove switches
replace switches
connect harness
install door panel.

Do the door locks and windows work if controlled at the individual doors? If the door lock works on the LF door only, and won't work at the other individual doors, you could be looking at three door lock actuators. If the rear window won't work at that door switch, you could be looking at a window motor on that door. Being a Volvo, it could get VERY expensive.

I was thinking about this all night. Actually, kept me awake. LOL. Seems to me, and this is my PERSONAL opinion, if this guy hasn't spent the money to keep up what should've been a good vehicle, what else has he neglected?
Volvo has a very good reputation of making safe, dependable vehicles. If they are maintained, just like everything else. And, keep in mind, they are very expensive to work on. Labor and parts, especially. I wouldn't walk away from this one, I'd run.
