Oxygen Sensor Sign In

1988 Toyota Corolla 1.6 liter 250,000 miles. I changed my exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe from the manifold to the catalytic converter. On the new exhaust manifold, the position of the oxygen sensor is different. Now that the sensor is in a different position, the wire will not reach. What effect will this have on my engine? By the way, the engine is carbureted, not fuel injected. Thanks for any information.

Re: Oxygen Sensor Sign In

The O2 sensor is important. Sounds like the incorrect manifold. Maybe, they sold you one for fuel injection? That was about the time that they were switching from carbs to injection. The O2 sensor is for your feed-back carb and helps to control fuel delivery.

Re: Oxygen Sensor Sign In

It is an aftermarket manifold to let the engine breathe better. Everything else was the proper fit. I test drove it after the change, and there was a big difference in performance. Can i splice a wire in between the two plugs, to fix this problem? Or do i need to try and find a sensor with a longer wire? Will the car be o.k. to drive about 4 miles to work tomorrow? Will it just use more fuel, and possibly not cause any other problems? Thnks
