The car started to "over-heat" lately, and I say over-heat because the temperature gauge is getting between hot and cold and the car is shutting down. None of my lights are coming on but I can smell something hot. If I drive it more than 15 minutes it will shut off. I have replaced the radiator, thermostat, the coolant elbows(?) and it is still doing the same thing that made me start working on it in the first place. I have had someone look it and does not think I have cracked a head or anything. I don't know what to do now and really don't have the money to be experimenting.
I would really appreciate someone who knows what they are talking about, this has gone on long enough for me!
Thank you so much!

Welcome to the site but it's probably all over for this car value vs up to a new engine. You keep driving while it's overheating till you can smell it and it shuts down! How much warning do you need to quit driving it?

If you want, dump another small amount to have a real mechanic diagnose it which is probably head gasket issues and now without tearing it all down no telling what damage has occurred to add cost to what might have been a lot simpler,
