Oil Leak 1999 Buick LaSabre	Sign In

A very small amount of oil (looks like motor oil) is leaking out from under the front end of my automobile. I can't exactly tell where it is coming from.

A friend of mine across the street told me that he got a quart of Lucas Oil Stop and put in his car and it stopped his oil leak. Has anyone had any experience with this type thing? I have read about it somewhere and I think that it said this compound caused your seals etc to swell (sort of Viagara for the auto I guess). If this is the case will this cause other seals in your engine to go bad?

I am afraid I have no experience with the product you mentioned as far as leak stopping capability or the effect it will have on your engine. I do however have a customer who uses lucas oil in their truck and will not use anything else. I also am very familiar with your vehicle and the source of the oil leaks and the 3.8 engine has the typical oil pan leaks that are not to difficult to repair. Other engines are more inclined to have intake issues and you alos may wish to examine the valve cover gaskets they too have noticable leaks.
The key is to purchase some oil leak dye, introduce this into your crankcase and then drive for a few days and using a black light insoect for the source of your leak. I cna not recommend the cleaning of your engine as that is not enviornmentally acceptable noe, but it can help to locate a leak by removing old grime grit and oil.
I would recommend locating the source of your leak and repairing that leak versus turning to an alternative leak stop.

Thanks for the info. I personally agree with you. If a product will swell a seal, looks like it will effect it's purpose somewhat.
